CONSEQUENCES OF MYOPIA

Consequences of Myopia

Myopia involves more than the inconvenience of needing glasses or contact lenses to see clearly. It poses a serious risk to long-term eye health.

Although corrective lenses help by adjusting how light focuses on the retina, they don’t fix the root issue — the eye itself has grown too long. This stretching causes the retina to thin, much like a stretched elastic band, making it more vulnerable to damage and disease.

The risks associated with high myopia are significant. While even moderate levels of myopia can lead to complications, the likelihood of vision loss increases as the condition becomes more severe. There is no truly 'safe' degree of myopia.
